A truly comforting meal for chilly evenings or the nights that you want to be able to get dinner on the table in a short time. This recipe provides for a meal that is complete in one dish. The flavors meld together and create its own tasty blend. For many of us there is no better or more perfect combination than Polish Sausage and Sauerkraut.
When it came to making this in my home, of course the kids turned their noses up at the smell. So I knew I had to come up with a dinner where at first they would not ‘smell’ the sauerkraut first.
This dish gives them the aroma of Polish Sausage, and potatoes. The savory flavor together helps to minimize the aroma of the Sauerkraut.
This wonderfully flavorful dish is made in the Crockpot, giving you much needed time out of the kitchen. Plus you can come home to the wonderful aroma of cooking food without doing the work.
Can I use Kielbasa rather than Polish Sausage?
You will find that when you are shopping for Polish Sausage, you will see Kielbasa. Technically, Kielbasa is the Polish term for Sausage. So you would be using the same type of meat. You could, however, use a Smoked Sausage or a Ring Bologna.
What type of Potato do you suggest?
I prefer to use a potato that stands up better, that is firmer. With this recipe I prefer to use a Gold potato. This is normally Yukon Gold.
What should I serve with this dish?
This is actually a complete meal made in the crock pot. There is no mandatory need to make an additional side dish. However, when I do need a side dish I will steam some Asparagus or other dark green vegetable like broccoli.
