Foil packets, otherwise known as hobo packets or hobo dinner, contain protein and vegetables, and can be cooked on an open fire, on the grill or even in the oven. Basically, ingredients are wrapped up in foil before going into or over your heat source, and the result is the flavors intermingle beautifully and when you unwrap the foil you have a tender, juicy and utterly tasty meal to enjoy.
For this recipe, you’re going to need steak, potatoes, onion, parsley, garlic, Italian seasoning, and a couple more things. Perhaps you already have all of these in your fridge and pantry. If not, you’re sure to have some of the ingredients. And if not, you can easily tweak the recipe and use whatever you happen to have. Your foil packets will still come out delicious. Of course you are also going to need aluminum foil and this really isn’t an item you should scrimp on. Always choose thick, good quality foil and you won’t get any tears like you do with cheap, poor quality foil.
These foil packets are so easy to prepare and you can cook them however you wish, maybe in the oven or in a smoker or grill. You can also char-grill them. This is a meal-in-one which you don’t need side dishes for. It’s great for any occasion from a camping trip to an easy midweek dinner.
