Sloppy Joes are not what they used to be. I remember growing up and thinking that no one knew how to make Sloppy Joes, except my mom. It did not seem like it was such a complicated process. Mom whipped them up in very little time to feed an army.
Yet, no matter where I went, if they had Sloppy Joes, I would order them and be disappointed in the flavor.
Sloppy Joes are the perfect lunch on a weekend, the perfect dinner any night of the week and they make the perfect food to make for a large gathering! Sloppy Joes are easy, they are filling and they are truly delicious! So why can’t people make them this way all the time?
I know each family has their own favorite recipes. Just try this one, it is going to blow you off your chair from the great flavor!!
Are these better on garlic toast or on a bun?
For me, it does not matter what is holding this dreamy delight called Sloppy Joes. In all reality, it is easier when the Sloppy Joe is placed on a bun.
What makes this recipe so special?
This recipe is really easy to make, has very few ingredients, tastes great and everyone loves them. This is a classic recipe used throughout generations.
Why did the buns fall apart so quickly?
There may have been too much of the liquid mess in the Sloppy Joe. If this happens often, reduce the amount of Worcestershire, mustard and ketchup by just a small amount. You could also increase the amount of ground beef in the mix. However, it is highly suggested that you toast the buns first, and do not assemble the Sloppy Joe until right as you are ready to eat.
Can I use a different type of Cheese?
You can use any type of cheese that your family enjoys. I find that these Sloppy Joes taste great when you use Pepper Jack cheese.
Ingredients:
1 ½ pounds Ground Beef, lean
½ cup Onion, chopped
¼ cup Green Bell Pepper, chopped

12 Slices American Cheese
6 Hamburger Buns Toasted, OR

How to Make Homemade Sloppy Joes
Step 1. Place the buns with the insides facing up on a baking tray, OR lay each slice of the Texa Toast Bread on the tray
Step 2. Preheat the broiler and then place the tray with the bread under the broiler, to lightly toast for a minute or two on both sides of the bread. Remove the tray and set to the side
Step 3. In a skillet over medium high heat, crumble the ground beef into the skillet, add the onions and green peppers
Step 4. Saute until the meat is no longer pink, and the onions and peppers are soft, drain any excess grease from the skillet

Step 6. Stir to combine and simmer until the sauce thickens, about 5 to 10 minutes
Step 7. Place a slice of cheese on each slice of bread or bun, place under the broiler for 30 seconds
Step 8. Spoon an equal amount of Sloppy Joe filling on each piece of bread and place another slice of cheese on top
Step 9. Place the baking tray under the broiler one more time for 30 seconds to melt the cheese.
