The Americanized version is what this recipe is. Now I will tell you that when people first see this, they will think it is simply Goulash. You can let them be pleasantly surprised when they taste this savory dish,
The dish includes ground beef, green peppers, tomatoes and onions. The seasoning is done with just minimal amounts to give this dish a flavor that is exciting and delicious.
Why not just call this goulash?
Goulash contains a tomato sauce or spaghetti sauce of some type. American Beef Chop Suey has tomatoes, but no sauce that contains tomatoes.
What should I serve with this dish?
My favorite item to serve with this American Beef Chop Suey is biscuits. I prefer Cheese biscuits, but the family likes plain biscuits.
How do I store this dish?
The Chop Suey can be placed in an airtight container and then placed into the refrigerator. It can stay in the refrigerator for up to 3 or 4 days.
Can I freeze the Chop Suey?
You could, as long as it is in an airtight and freezer safe container. It can be left in the freezer for up to 3 months.
Ingredients:
1 tbsp Olive Oil
1 Onion, large, diced
1 Green Bell Pepper, diced
2 Garlic Cloves, freshly minced
1 tsp Salt
½ tsp Black Pepper
1 pound Ground beef, lean
1 ½ tsp Oregano
1 tsp basil, dried
1 tsp Parsley, chopped
1 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
2 cans, diced Tomatoes, with juice
1 pound Elbow macaroni, cooked according to package directions
How to Cook Chopsuey :
Step 1. In a skillet over medium high heat add the Olive Oil and then crumble the ground beef into the skillet
Step 2. Brown until the beef is mostly done, some pink should still show
Step 3. Drain the grease
Step 4. Add in the onions and green pepper, and the garlic and cook 5 to 6 minutes until the vegetables are tender
Step 5. Add in the spices, parsley and Worcestershire Sauce and saute for 3 minutes
Step 6. Add the tomatoes with the juice, reduce the heat, cover and simmer for 10 minutes
Step 7. Add the cooked pasta and gently toss
Step 8. Cover and simmer for 2 to 3 minutes
Step 9. Serve hot
