Walking Taco Casserole

This dish is the one that we all shake our heads about and wonder why we did not come up with this a long time ago?

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup Onion chopped
  • 1 packet Taco Seasoning
  • 3 ounces Cream Cheese
  • 1 small can Green chilis
  • 2 to 3 cups Frito Corn Chips
  • 1 ½ pounds Ground Beef
  • 1 cup Taco Cheese Blend shredded
  • 2 Roma Tomatoes chopped
  • 2 cups Lettuce shredded
  • Sour Cream and Salsa for a Garnish or topping

Method
 

  1. 1. Preheat the oven to 350*
    2. In a skillet over medium high heat, add the ground beef and onion and cook until the beef is done thoroughly.
    3. Drain excess grease
    4. Add in the drained Green Chilis
    5. Stir in the Cream Cheese
    6. Saute until the Cream Cheese has melted and is combined when stirred
    7. Spoon the meat mixture into a baking dish
    8. Top with the Corn Chips and then the shredded Cheese
    9. Put in the oven and bake for 20 minutes
    10. Remove from the oven and top with Shredded lettuce and chopped tomato
    11. If desired, top with Salsa and Sour Cream

Notes

Can I use a different type of meat?
So many people ask this. For me, a recipe is just a base, go ahead and play with it until you are happy with the dish. If that means changing the meat to Chicken or Turkey, Sausage or Bison, go ahead.
