Turtle Caramel Cake

There are many recipes out there for a Turtle Cake, but none that made me as happy as this one does. The others involved spreading the caramel over the cake.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 box German Chocolate Cake Mix I used Pillsbury
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup Milk
  • cup Canola Oil
  • 12 ounces Caramel bits you could use Kraft Caramels also
  • ¾ cup Butter unsalted
  • ½ cup evaporated milk
  • 2 cup Pecans chopped
  • 1 cup Chocolate Chips Milk chocolate flavor
  • 1 tub Chocolate Fudge Frosting

Method
 

  1. 1. Preheat the oven to 350*
    2. Spray a 9x13 baking pan with nonstick sprayIn a mixing bowl, combine the cake mix, oil, eggs and milk using a hand mixer.
    3. Pour half of the batter into the baking pan and bake for 15 minutes
    4. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the butter, caramel bits and the evaporated milk
    5. Melt together stirring constantly
    6. Pour the caramel mixture over the cake
    7. Sprinkle the chocolate chips and pecans over the caramel mixture
    8. Pour the remaining cake batter over the chips and pecans
    9. Place in the oven and bake for 20 minutes
    10. Place the pan on a wire rack to cool completely
    11. When the cake is completely cool, soften the Chocolate Fudge frosting by stirring or heating for 10 to 15 seconds
    12. Spread this softened frosting over the cake
    13. Sprinkle with additional pecans and chocolate chips
    14. Serve and Enjoy!
