Homemade Turtle Candy with Pecans and Caramel

Turtle candy has been a traditional candy Made around the Holidays for many generations. I used to love being asked to help when I was young.

Ingredients
  

  • 64 Pecan Halves this will make 16 Turtles
  • 11 ounces of baking caramel
  • 1 bag SemiSweet Chocolate Chips

Method
 

  1. 1. Cover a baking tray with parchment paper
    2. Lay the Pecan halves in an ‘X’ shape, using 4 pecan halves per X
    3. Be sure to leave room in between each
    4. Place the caramels into a microwave safe bowl with 1 tsp of water added
    5. Heat on 30 second intervals stirring between each cycle, until the caramels have softened enough to spoon some out
    6. Using a spoon, Pour some of the melted caramel directly over the center where the 4 pecans connect in the center
    7. Repeat until all have a spoon of caramel on the center
    8. Place the chocolate chips in a microwave safe bowl and heat on 30 second intervals stirring after each, until the chocolate is melted
    9. Spoon some of the melted Chocolate over the caramel in the center of each ‘turtle’.
    10. The tray can be placed into the freezer to harden before serving.

Notes

What is Turtle Candy?
It is a seriously rich treat with gooey caramel, chocolate and nuts or pretzels. They are generally made in a way that they resemble the shape of a turtle.
