ELVIS PRESLEY SHEET CAKE

This sheet cake is the one that Elvis’ mom would make for him all the time.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 white Cake mix PLUS ingredients listed on the back of the box
  • 1 can Pineapple crushed
  • ½ cup Butter
  • 1 cup sugar8 ounces cream cheese
  • 3 cups Powdered Sugar
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 2 cups Pecans mostly crushed

Method
 

  1. 1. Preheat the oven to 350*
    2. Prepare the cake mix according to the package directions
    3. Spray an 11x7 baking tray with a nonstick cooking spray
    4. Pour the batter into the prepared pan
    5. Place in oven and bake according to the package, or when a toothpick comes out clean when inserted in the center
    6. Cool for 5 minutes,
    7. Use a wooden spoon to poke holes in the top of the cake at roughly ½ inch spacings
    8. Pour the crushed pineapple on top of the cake and smooth out
    9. Set the cake aside to allow it to cool completely
    10. In a mixing bowl combine the cream cheese, butter, vanilla and beat with an electric mixer until smooth
    11. Add the powdered sugar and beat again
    12. Stir in the pecans
    13. Using an offset spatula spread the frosting over the cake
    14. Top with additional Pecans if desired

Notes

Is it best to use a white cake mix?
The only reason it was likely white is because they probably did not have pineapple flavored cake mixes then. When homemade cakes were made, they used a homemade recipe and for those days, white was the easiest and most economical.
