Crockpot Great Northern Beans

Beans are one of those vegetables that we just do not eat enough of. They are so filled with nutrition, they taste fabulous and so easy to make.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 pound Great Northern Beans
  • 1 ½ Smoked Ham Hocks
  • cup Brown Sugar
  • 1 onion Chopped
  • Salt and Pepper if desired

Method
 

  1. 1. Place the beans in the crockpot
    2. Add in the brown sugar, ham hocks and onion
    3. Cover the beans with at least 2 inches of water
    4. Set the temperature to high and cook for 2 hours
    5. Turn the heat to low and continue to cook in the Crock pot for 4 to 5 hours
    6. Remove the ham hocks from the beans and remove the meat from the bones
    7. Add shredded ham back into the beans
    8. Stir to mix the meat in
    9. Season with Salt and Pepper
    10. Scoop into bowls and serve

Notes

Can I use broth instead of water when I add the liquid?
You could add some bouillon to the water, if you do I would say use a ham base or a Chicken base.
