Christmas Breakfast Casserole

This recipe is for a breakfast Casserole that I grew up with every Christmas morning. I think it is foolish to only have this delightful breakfast once a year.

Ingredients
  

  • 6 slices of bread you can use white, wheat or a combination of both.
  • 1 pound ground Breakfast Sausage
  • ½ tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Mustard Powder
  • 2 cups Milk whole
  • 4 eggs beaten
  • 1 cup Mild Cheddar Cheese shredded

Method
 

  1. 1. In a skillet over medium high heat, crumble the ground breakfast sausage
    2. Cook the sausage thoroughly and drain the grease from the skillet
    3. In a medium bowl combine the milk, eggs, salt and mustard powder using a whisk to blend it all
    4. Stir in the bread crumbs, breakfast sausage, and the shredded cheese
    5. Be sure to coat all the ingredients evenly
    6. Pour into the greased baking dish
    7. Cover the dish tightly and chill in the refrigerator overnight or 8 hours
    8. Preheat the oven to 350*
    9. Cover the baking dish with a cover or Aluminum foil and bake for 45 to 60 minutes
    10. Reduce the heat to 325* and uncover the baking dish
    11. Bake for another 30 minutes or until set completely
    12. Cut and serve

Notes

Can this Casserole be made in advance?
It is a wonderful idea to make this in advance. You can prepare the entire casserole, cover it and place it in the refrigerator before baking it. Then when you are waiting for your coffee in the morning, place the casserole into a preheated oven.
