Method
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
- Prep baking sheet with nonstick cooking spray.
- Spread bread cubes on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake at 375 degrees for 20 minutes. (Or until the cubes have dried out.)
- Set aside.
- Set on medium heat melt the butter in a large skillet.
- Carefully add the onions and celery cooking for about 8 minutes.
- Stirring often.
- (Or cook until the onions and celery are tender.)
- Transfer to a large bowl.
- Add the apples and sausage to the same skillet.
- Cook the apples and sausage on medium heat for 10 minutes.
- The sausage should be a light brown.
- Add the apples and sausage to the large bowl.
- Stir to mix.
- Add the cubed bread, sage, and thyme to the large bowl.
- Stir to mix.
- Add the chicken broth, stirring to coat the cubed bread.
- Salt and pepper to taste.
- Spoon the dressing to a baking dish.
- Bake at 375 degrees for 30 minutes.
- Remove from the oven to stir.
- (At this point stir only with a wooden spoon.)
- Return to the oven.
- Bake at 375 degrees for an additional 30-35 minutes.
- Serve.
