Beef American Chop Suey Recipe

Chop Suey is a dish that combines mixed vegetables, meat and a sauce together. Originally served as a side dish in a Cantonese Style Americans have changed the way this dish is made and how it looks.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 tbsp Olive Oil
  • 1 Onion large, diced
  • 1 Green Bell Pepper diced
  • 2 Garlic Cloves freshly minced
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • ½ tsp Black Pepper
  • 1 pound Ground beef lean
  • 1 ½ tsp Oregano
  • 1 tsp basil dried
  • 1 tsp Parsley chopped
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
  • 2 cans diced Tomatoes, with juice
  • 1 pound Elbow macaroni cooked according to package directions

Method
 

  1. 1. In a skillet over medium high heat add the Olive Oil and then crumble the ground beef into the skillet
    2. Brown until the beef is mostly done, some pink should still show
    3. Drain the grease
    4. Add in the onions and green pepper, and the garlic and cook 5 to 6 minutes until the vegetables are tender
    5. Add in the spices, parsley and Worcestershire Sauce and saute for 3 minutes
    6. Add the tomatoes with the juice, reduce the heat, cover and simmer for 10 minutes
    7. Add the cooked pasta and gently toss
    8. Cover and simmer for 2 to 3 minutes
    9. Serve hot

Notes

Why not just call this goulash?
Goulash contains a tomato sauce or spaghetti sauce of some type. American Beef Chop Suey has tomatoes, but no sauce that contains tomatoes.
