Light and fluffy Cinnamon Sugar Buttermilk Biscuits are ideal for any breakfast when smothered in cinnamon butter!
Today’s Foodie Extravaganza day is celebrating the Buttermilk Biscuit. Kathleen, from Fearlessly Creative Mammas is the host this month, and to celebrate her southern roots, she picked Buttermilk Biscuits as the theme. May 14th is actually Buttermilk Biscuit day, but we get to pick from any of the foods in the specific month, so Buttermilk Biscuits it is. We pick our foods from the website The Nibble.
I have to admit. I haven’t made a true biscuit in a couple years. I think the last biscuits that I made that weren’t simple drop biscuits were some Red Lobster Copy Cat Biscuits… speaking of—I reallyyyyy need to make those soon!
Kathleen really gave the push to jump back on the biscuit wagon this month. Thanks for that! It just so happens that I’m also participating in a #BrunchWeek event and these biscuits fit right into the category!
I know some people are scared of making homemade biscuits and it’s really one of the easiest things to do… you just have to make sure you don’t over work the dough. Typically after the second or third time you work out the dough your biscuits become flatter and flatter once baked. These babies…. they’re a different story. I found that after the second or third time patting out, they actually rise better. Crazy, right?! They also stay nice, fluffy and soft! So delicious.
These have a little something extra to go along with them as well. Cinnamon in the dough and a cinnamon sugar mixture coating the outside before they’re baked! I have all this Dixie Crystals sugar staring me in the face, so what better way to use it?! Ohh and add some cinnamon butter when they come out of the oven and they’re perfect! They remind me a lot of Texas Roadhouse Rolls… just in biscuit form.
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 2 teaspoons Dixie Crystals sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1/4 cup Dixie Crystals sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- Preheat oven to 350*F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicon baking mat.
- In a mixing bowl, fitted with a paddle, combine the flour, baking powder, 2 teaspoons sugar, salt, and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon.
- Cut in the butter until course crumbs appear.
- Slowly add in the buttermilk, mixing just until combined.
- Turn dough out onto a floured surface and with your hands pat it into a circle about 3/4 inch thick.
- Using a round cutter or your choosing, cut out your biscuits.
- In a small bowl mix the 1/4 cup sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon together and roll the biscuits around in it and place on the cookie sheet.
- Repeat with remaining dough, trying to not over work it.
- Bake at 350* for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.
- Serve with cinnamon butter!
